Samsung Notes app may fail to sync your data if the sync feature is disabled. This may lead you to believe that the Samsung Notes app is not working on your Galaxy phone. Here’s how you can check if the sync feature is enabled in the Samsung Notes app.
- In the Samsung Notes app, tap the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner and then tap the gear icon to open the settings menu.
- Enable the toggle next to Sync with Samsung Cloud. If you want to sync your notes with OneNote, enable the toggle next to Sync to Microsoft OneNote.
2. Update the Samsung Notes App
It’s always a good idea to keep your apps updated to their latest version. Apparently, several users on the Samsung forums reported fixing issues with the Samsung Notes app by updating it. You can check for pending updates for Samsung Notes on both Galaxy Store and Play Store. Open up Play Store and search for Samsung Notes app. If you see the Update button, tap on it to update the app. If the Play Store does not show any pending updates, you can check the Galaxy Store for updates. In our case, we saw a pending update for the Samsung Notes app on the Galaxy Store, but not on the Play Store. Several Reddit users also experienced the same.
3. Check App Permissions
A lack of relevant app permissions could prevent Samsung Notes from functioning properly on your device. For instance, if you’ve disabled camera permissions for the Samsung Notes app, you won’t be able to attach any photos or videos to your notes. To avoid such problems, you must allow Samsung Notes all necessary permissions.
- Long press on the Samsung Notes app and tap the info icon from the resulting menu. Then, go to Permissions.
- Go through each permission and enable them one by one.
4. Remove and Re-Add Your Samsung Account
Authentication issues with your Samsung account could also prevent the Notes app from working properly. One way to fix such issues is to remove your Samsung account and add it again. Here are the steps for the same.
- Open the Settings app and navigate to Accounts and backup > Manage accounts.
- Select your Samsung account and tap the Remove account button.
- Select Remove account and then tap Sign out to confirm.
- Once removed, return to the Manage accounts page and tap on Add account.
- Select the Samsung account option and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the sign-in process. Head back to the Samsung Notes app and check if it works fine.
5. Prevent Samsung Notes From Sleeping on Your Phone
On One UI, you can put your apps to sleep to reduce their battery usage. While this does improve battery life, it can keep apps from working efficiently on your phone. To avoid this, you need to prevent the Samsung Notes app from sleeping on your Galaxy phone.
- Open the Settings app and navigate to Battery and device care > Battery.
- Tap on Never sleeping apps.
- Tap the plus icon in the top right corner, select Samsung Notes, and then tap on Add.
6. Enable Automatic Date and Time
Is your phone set to an incorrect date or time? If so, apps, including Samsung Notes, may have trouble syncing data. This can happen if you’ve disabled the automatic date and time setting on your phone. Here’s how to enable it.
- Open the Settings app and navigate to General management > Date and time.
- Enable the toggle next to Automatic date and time.
7. Clear App Cache
Corrupt or inaccessible cache data could also cause the Samsung Notes app to crash abruptly on your Galaxy phone. Thankfully, it’s easy to clear redundant app cache data on your Android. Here’s how you can go about it.
- Long press on the Samsung Notes app and tap the info icon from the resulting menu.
- Go to Storage and tap the Clear cache option in the bottom right corner. Reopen the Samsung Notes app and try to use it again.
